In this day and age of fast and faster made possible through rapidly changing technological developments, the fact that handmade fine art (specifically painting and sculpture; which are relatively much slower to produce than digital based art), continue to survive, speaks to exactly why I make what I make: evidence of the sensation of touch and through that existence a sense of the real is evoked. Ironically, the very same reason why technology is so highly used is the same reason why there is a mass interest in the return to painting and drawing . Although I don’t want to get into societal notions of platonic truth, I do feel that perhaps the fast paced presents a public trust issue. I don’t mean transcendental truth, but rather the sort of truth that is here and now in the slow present as opposed to the incessant gaze toward the fast future. Changes and developments in digital media reflect uncertainty and a sort of unreliability to which painting and drawing seems to present an alternative. These specific media are a reminder of the tangible in an ever-growing virtual world.
